Making Moves With a

One-Legged Tap Dancer

We can all learn a lesson from Evan Ruggiero

Clean Teen Reads

Can you imagine? From little up, you have a passion for tap dance, then cancer strikes and you lose your leg. What would you do? Check out what Even Ruggiero did.

Evan Ruggiero has always moved to his own beat. At the age of 6, he fell in love with tap dancing. But, at age 19, a bone cancer diagnosis cost Evan his right leg and threatened to end his dancing dreams. Nevertheless, he kept his hopes up, fighting cancer one step at a time. Less than a week after his final chemo session, Evan was back in the studio, learning to dance with a prosthetic. Now, he’s lighting up the world with his unique brand of dance.

Evan spreads hope and inspiration wherever he goes; he pressed through pain and discouragement, he persevered when the going was tough. We can all learn a lesson from Evan Ruggiero.

In my newest release, Brought To You By The Color Drab, main character Race Paloma has not lost a leg — rather he lost his brother in a drive-by shooting. Like Evan Ruggiero, Race had many obstacles to overcome. But comes out a winner! You can read the first two chapters right here. Just click below.

[By the way, Brought To You By The Color Drab, is beginning to show up on the shelves of libraries around the country. Is it in yours? If not, be sure to connect with your librarian and request it. They listen to their patrons!]

Teens on the Scene — Exciting Novels for Reluctant Teen Readers

Clean Teen Reads

Clean Teen Reads

The Clean Teen Reads site is all about teens, books, stories, and of course, reading. The reason some teens shy away from reading as a pastime may not be because they don’t want to, but that reading is such a struggle for them. They’re reluctant teen readers.

In light of that fact, here’s an article that lists a number of well-written, captivating stories/novels written in what’s known as the hi/lo style. They’re designed for an easier read.

Check out the list by clicking HERE.

If you’re a teen who struggles with reading, or you know of a teen who struggles with reading, you might want to check out this list. Let’s all be active in going the extra mile to get the right books into the hands of teens who need them — the reluctant teen readers!

Of course, I was thrilled that my hero, my hometown author, S.E. Hinton’s famous novel, The Ousiders, is included in the list.
