Wheelchair-Enabled; Wheelchair Access — Part I — 2 Comments

  1. Joni has always been one of my hero’s. My mom contracted polio in 1936, between the epidemics, and thanx to my grandfather’s wealth, not only did she survive but she became kind of a guinea pig for surgeries so she could walk w/o braces and never needed a wheelchair. And, she became a Physical Therapist, and served as a Captain in the Army stateside during WW2.

However, they told her she’d be unable to have children, so she was married later in life….Surprise! 2 relatively healthy girls 15 months apart! We are both in our 60s now. Mom died almost 40 years ago but even with her “issues” her accessibility fight continues with her 2nd generation Rotarian working w/Polio Plus and our hometown put sidewalk cuts in long before ADA.

    • Wow! What an amazing history/heritage you have, Andrea. Almost sounds like a plot for a novel.
And you and your sister were certainly “miracle” babies. The physicians never have the last day.
Our Father God always has the last say!!

Thank you for sharing. It’s so appreciated.
